Dillon, future U of L teammates win title together

After the 2007 Women’s Division National Tournament over the weekend, it looks like the University of Louisville women’s lacrosse team will have a remarkable freshman class for a first-year varsity program.

Eleven of Louisville’s incoming freshmen - including North Oldham High School’s Katie Dillon - led the Yellow team to the Senior Only division title at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. One of those players, Cheltenham (Pa.) High School senior Mary Dean, received the Beth Stone Award as the best player in the Senior Only division.

Dillon, who was voted to the All-State Team after each of her four seasons playing for Oldham in the Kentucky Lacrosse Association, had seven goals and six assists in the Yellow team’s four games.

The Cardinals will begin their first varsity season next March and will become a full-time Big East Conference team in 2009.
