The High Lights: December 10 - December 16


Boys’ basketball

Central teammates Lee McGee and Randy Skeens combined to score 116 points over two games in the King of the Bluegrass Classic. McGee had a career-high 34 points and 10 rebounds in an 81-70 win over Elizabethtown in the first round on Thursday and had 30 points and 11 rebounds in an 82-78 loss to Warren Central in the quarterfinals on Saturday. Skeens scored 24 points on Thursday and 28 on Saturday.

Male’s Douglas Beaumont also had two high-scoring games in the KOB. He hit five three-pointers and scored 23 points in a 59-38 win over Meade County in the first round on Thursday and scored a career-high 30 points, with seven three-pointers, in a 66-61 win over Doss in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

DeSales’ Aaron Tandy hit five three-pointers and scored 27 points in an 82-71 loss to Elizabethtown in the KOB losers’ bracket on Saturday.

Western’s Tameron Holt had a triple-double with 16 points, 15 rebounds and 10 blocks in a 56-48 win over Beth Haven on Tuesday and scored 26 points in a 61-34 win over Bullitt Central on Saturday.

Trinity’s Tanner Jacobs recorded his fifth double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds in a 65-50 win over Manual on Tuesday.

Fern Creek’s Chris Duncan had a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds in a 44-37 win over North Bullitt on Thursday.

Evangel’s Matt Fulks had 16 points and 15 rebounds in a 60-41 win over Providence on Saturday.

Doss’ Jeff Brooks also had a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds in a 74-40 win over Southern on Tuesday.

Kentucky Country Day’s Armani Randolph scored 26 points in a 72-62 win over Portland Christian on Tuesday and added 24 in a 67-57 win over Paris in the losers’ bracket of the St. Francis Invitational on Saturday.

Manual’s Aaron Williams scored 27 points in a 87-65 win over Madisonville on Saturday.

Christian Academy’s Blake Knotts hit five three-pointers and scored 24 points in a 68-61 loss to South Oldham on Friday.


Girls’ basketball

Fern Creek’s Monique Reid had a triple-double with 39 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists in a 64-44 win over Bullitt Central on Tuesday and scored 29 points in a 60-46 loss to Anderson County on Thursday.

Waggener’s Chasity Wilkerson had a double-double with 30 points and 15 rebounds in a 63-46 win over Collegiate on Monday.

Manual’s Brittany Wilson had a double-double with 17 points and 19 rebounds in a 44-43 win over Fairdale on Tuesday. Whitley Briggs scored 26 points for Fairdale.

Jeffersontown’s Michela Basey also had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds in a 41-30 win over Kentucky Country Day on Wednesday.

Sacred Heart’s Elizabeth Campbell scored 25 points in an 81-33 win over Waggener on Thursday.

Butler’s Tia Gibbs scored 22 points in a 65-26 win over Male on Thursday.


Boys’ swimming

Host St. Xavier won nine of the 14 events in the Brother Fabius Invitational at the University of Louisville on Saturday. The Tigers were victorious in the 200-yard medley, 400-yard medley, and 400-yard freestyle relays, and Hal Graft (200-yard freestyle), Silas Boyle (50-yard breaststroke), Conor Heine (50-yard backstroke), Lee Duggins (100-yard backstroke), Andrew Taylor (100-yard breaststroke), and Will Tafel (50-yard butterfly) won their respective races.


Girls’ swimming

Sacred Heart also won nine of 14 events in the Brother Fabius Invitational, including the 200-yard medley, 400-yard medley, and the 200-yard freestyle relays. Clark Cromer (50-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle) and Marisa McGlynn (50-yard backstroke, 100-yard backstroke) each won two races, and Janna Miller (50-yard breaststroke) and Katrina Neubauer (50-yard butterfly) each won one.
