Louisville student-athletes dotted the rosters of nine teams at USA Field Hockey’s two events in Virginia Beach, Va., over the last week.

The team with the most local players, Columbus, also fared the best, finishing third in the Under-16 division of the National Futures Championship. Four other teams in that tournament had local players, as did four teams in the Regional Rumble.

Columbus, which went 1-1-1 in Pool C, lost to eventual division champion West Chester 1-0 in the semifinals but beat Trenton 1-0 in the third-place game on Tuesday.

Columbus had nine players from Louisville high schools, including Kristen Henn, Jessica Lindner, and Olivia Miller from defending state champion Sacred Heart; Jenna Quill and Maggie Swindall from Assumption; Hannah Boyer and Emma Trawick from Manual; Paige Neat from Christian Academy; and Taylor Hodge from Collegiate.

Another Under-16 team, Springfield, went 0-2-1 in Pool B and finished ninth in the division with Sacred Heart’s Anna Madeline Cristofoli and Chelsea Sullivan and Manual’s Reagan Lauder.

Detroit, an Under-19 team, had two of Louisville’s best players - recent Assumption graduate Christine Brightwell and recent Sacred Heart graduate Brittany Miller - and went 0-1-2 in Pool D before finishing 10th in the division. Sacred Heart’s Kelsey Kiper, Mercy’s Katie Norris, and Ballard’s Lara Williams also were on the team.

Assumption’s Lauren Schmeing was the only Louisville player on another Under-19 team, Canton, which went 0-1-2 in the same pool and finished 13th.

In the Under-14 division, USA Blue went 0-4-1 and finished last among six teams with Mercy’s Ellen Meyer and Collegiate’s Mallory Tyler.

Fissure was the only team with a Louisville connection that placed in the top 10 among the 32 in the Regional Rumble’s Under-19 division. Fissure went 2-0-1 in Pool E and finished eighth with Collegiate’s Barbara Gibbs, Assumption’s Samantha Hayden, Sacred Heart’s Brittany Sullivan, and Mercy’s Amy Wimsatt.

Motion, with Male’s Danielle Jones, went 1-2 in Pool A and finished 17th; Force - with Kentucky Country Day’s Christena Burell, Collegiate’s Margaret McConnell and Meighan Preston, and Sacred Heart’s Megan Monahan - went 1-1-1 in Pool B and finished 21st; and Blast, with Assumption’s Samantha Saunders, went 1-2-0 in Pool G and finished 27th.
