The International Field Hockey Club of Kentucky won a championship at the 2007 USA Field Hockey National Indoor Tournament when the IFHCK Stars finished an unbeaten run through an under-14 pool on Sunday.
The Stars and Indy Styx (Pa.) both went 5-0-1 in the U14Z pool and played to a 2-2 tie on Saturday. But the Stars won the tiebreaker for first place with a better goal differential after ripping the Capitol Pegasus Nats (Md.) 6-0 in their last game.
IFHCK sent three other teams to the tournament at the Virginia Beach (Va.) Convention Center, and none finished worse than third in their respective pools. Each pool had eight teams.
IFHCK Dynamic outscored opponents 31-9 in the U19H pool but lost 3-0 to Jersey Intensity Purple (N.J.), which won the pool. Dynamic went 6-1 and settled for second place.
IFHCK’s two under-16 teams, Pegasus and Spirit, each finished third. Pegasus, which had won its pool at a qualifying tournament, played seven first-place teams from other qualifiers in U16J and went 4-2-1, with a 1-0 loss to champion Spark Blue (Md.) and a 3-2 loss to the runner-up Xcalibur Dragons (Pa.). Spirit also went 4-2-1 in the U16N pool.
