Male wanted a shot at the CAL Classic title, and now it has one.

For that, the Bulldogs owe Presentation junior Emily Belshoff and her teammates at least a tip of the cap. With Belshoff’s goal, the Toppers stunned district rival Manual 1-0 in the only upset during pool play at Christian Academy on Friday.

Male, which had tied Manual 1-1, then beat Presentation 2-1 to win Pool Two.

“We knew we were in a tough bracket, with Male and Manual,” Presentation coach Jill O’Bryan said. “At this point in the season, we wanted to come in and play two very good games. And we did.”

Meanwhile, Christian Academy rolled in Pool One, as expected, with a 6-0 win over Seneca and a 3-0 win over St. Francis. Seneca and St. Francis tied 3-3 in the other game.

All pool play games were 30 minutes.

Christian Academy (7-2) will play Male (5-3-1) for the title in a 60-minute game beginning at approximately 12:45 p.m. on Saturday. Seneca (2-7-1) will play Manual (5-4-1) for fifth place at 11:15 a.m., and St. Francis (0-5-1) will play Presentation (3-5) for third place at 12 p.m.; both games will be 30 minutes.
