Long, Pellegrini excel at national indoor meets

A week after winning the Class AAA 1,500 meters at the Mason Dixon Games, St. Xavier High School senior Brian Long placed third in the two-mile at the National Scholastic Indoor Championships at the New Balance Track and Field Center in New York City on Sunday.

Long finished in 9:16.49, more than 0:05 faster than his winning two-mile time at the University of Kentucky Invitational in February.

Manual junior Mary Grace Pellegrini ran in the two-mile at the Nike Indoor Nationals at the Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex in Landover, Md., on Sunday and placed fourth in her section and 16th overall with a time of 11:12.24. The winning time was 10:25.41. She had finished the two-mile in 10:58.27 at the University of Kentucky Invitational in February.
