Trinity runners are the best once again
Gathered around a table in a corner of Trinity High School’s cafeteria on Thursday afternoon, several cross country runners carefully mulled over the choices for the championship ring that soon will decorate their hands and flaunt the Class AAA title the team won on Nov. 11.

Assumption seniors make their own mark
When Assumption High School feted the volleyball team on Monday afternoon, two days after the Rockets won their third straight state championship, eight players finally enjoyed the spotlight that had been reserved for seniors each of the previous two years.

On the gridiron... with Valley’s football team
Before last year, the Class AAA program from Valley Station that reached the state semifinals in 1997 had not won more than three games in a season since '98 and had won a total of five games over the previous five seasons. The Vikings improved to 4-6 last season, the second under coach Roger Deskins, and they have won five of their first six games this season to move closer to their first playoff appearance in eight years.

On the trail... with Assumption's runners
The Rockets will see that Hoover, Ala., can be more than football, at least for one day. Home of the much ballyhooed Hoover High School football team, which is the subject of the MTV series "Two-A-Days" and is ranked No. 1 in Sports Illustrated's National Football Top 25, the city will host the Great American Cross Country Festival for the first time on Saturday.
