Nearly a quarter of those who registered for the Snowman Shuffle 4 Mile skipped the race at Cherokee Park on this frigid January morning - but not the best.
Tim Kaiser and Jen Alessandro repeated as Snowman Shuffle winners in the 30-degree chill and moved closer to the points titles in Fleet Feet Louisville's Polar Bear Grand Prix series.
Kaiser and Alessandro both already had won the Reindeer Romp 4K, the first race in the series, on Dec. 16. The third and final race, the Frostbite 5K, will be held on Feb. 17.
Kaiser finished in 21:00.53, far ahead of the other 676 runners and walkers in a race that had 887 registrants. Joe Buechler was next in 21:34.13, but he was bumped to fifth for allegedly cutting the course short. One of Kaiser's former University of Louisville teammates, Mike Horan, crossed the finish line third in 21:42.63 and was awarded second place.
Alessandro, a former Bellarmine University star, finished nearly two minutes ahead of any other women and was 13th overall with a time of 23:38.96. Varinka Barbini was second in 25:28.39, and Natalie Postel was third in 25:49.88.
