The Beginning
In the next few weeks I gradually worked my way to run for 5 consecutive minutes, then 10, then 15, then a Mile. Before I knew it I was able to run 3 miles on the treadmill in about 30 minutes. So I was feeling good, so I decided to sign up and run the Race for the Cure in October. During that race I quickley found out that running indoors on a treadmill is very different from running outside on the street. The first mile flew by. The second mile was alright not great slowing down toward the end. I was walking part of the race, but I was able to finish right under 36 minutes. I was pretty happy with the time.
I did some preparation and decided to run in the Outrunning Autism 5Krace a couple weeks later. I trained Outside for the first time. I was able to finish the race in 30:46. A overall better effort. This race had a few more dips in the road than the Race for the Cure. After the race I was feeling ambitious and while talking to my friend John, we decided to go ahead and try the Triple Crown of Running.
When they did the Kick-off at 4th Street Live at Lucky Strike, we decided to go ahead and sign up for the races. We put our money down and signed up. So we were committed to run the races at the point. We continued to run at the gym on the treadmills over the holidays. My friend John told me about the running program that Fleet Feet was doing. We went to the informational meeting and decided to sign up for the program then. We felt running with the group would help provide structure and a few pointers on how to get ready for the races.
In my next blog I will get you up to speed on the first three weeks and the Snowman Shuffle.
