Blogging on the road to the Louisville Triple Crown of Running

Wow, 30 miles this past week -- a personal record. It didn't even feel that hard! Easy runs on Monday and Thursday, speedwork on Tuesday, moderate runs on Friday and today, and a long run on Saturday.

Definitely have condemed my old shoes to non-running use. My new Speedstars are very airy, which will be great in the summer but makes for chilly feet right now. So, I wore my old Verdicts on Monday and Tuesday to keep my feet warm, but the worn down cushioning wrecked havoc on my ankle. Picked up some new Balega socks on Saturday, which were a little chilly at the beginning of my Sunday run but were very cozy about a mile into it.

The Frostbite 5k is coming up, and I'm hoping to break 24 minutes (and my PR of 24:39). I'll probably do a short tempo run today so I know what 8 minute miles feel like, followed by speework on Tuesday and light runs Wednesday and Thursday. Friday will be an off day, with the race on Saturday and a long run on Sunday in Iroquois park. (We want to tackle that route before the mini rolls around!)

Weather this week looks unpredictable at best; warmer temps but chance of snow followed by sun and 20s. Looks like race day should be nice, though. Cross your fingers!

About Me

I ran track (100 meters, 200 meters) and played soccer in high school. I took a few years off from running while settling into the academic grind and picked it back up in May 2006. I ran my first five-kilometer race in September 2006 and decided in November to go for the Triple Crown and the Kentucky Derby Festival miniMarathon. I am the training coordinator for Ken Combs Running Store, where I lead a Saturday group from the store each week.

I run at least five days a week, sometimes six, and it's usually through Jeffersontown and through the parks on the weekends. My 5k personal record is 21:45, and I'm shooting for a sub-2 hour mini - in part because I'm a bridesmaid in an afternoon wedding that day!

When not running, I manage my own media and marketing company. I freelance for several local publications, primarily The Lane Report and Business First. I also coordinate promotional efforts at Yew Dell Gardens in Crestwood. And, I am finishing my bachelor’s in communications at the University of Louisville.
