Going the Distance: 32.4 miles and beyond
Alan Tobin
"That's my slowest time here. I've been putting in faster workouts earlier this year. So I'm fast, but I'm not as ready in terms of endurance. I went out good - in 5:00 - and I was hoping to get between my PR, 15:43, and 16:00. But with my training this winter, I didn't have the endurance to maintain it. Now I'll try to go through the first 5K in the same time at the City Run."
"I feel better today than I did two weeks ago, as far as being competitive. I did the first 5K in 16:10, which is faster than I ran the Anthem. That's what I wanted to do. I got through four miles in 21:00, which is good, too. But I kind of fell apart in the last two miles. I ended up with a little better time than last year (33:17)."
"I'm pretty happy with my place. My time was slow; it was very humid today. But I was ahead of some people who beat me in the last few races."
"I had a good place, but my time was not too fast. I went through the first half at about what I wanted. I had to make a one-minute pit stop at 12, and I did the half in 1:16. Then I didn't have anyone to run with. It's hard to race in a marathon when you're out there by yourself for most of it, or at least the last half."

"The race went well, but I feel like I should have done better. I just wish I could have finished in the same time as last year. I was in better shape last year. I finished four minutes slower this year. Hopefully the next races will be better."
"Good race, and thanks to my cousin Erin for pushing me to finish. I was glad she was with me. We had a great time running together. I look forward to the 10 Miler."
"I had a pretty good race, and the weather was beautiful. Me and my cousin had a great time. Also, my son did a good job at the fun races."
"I finished. That is about all I can say. Both my heels were bleeding by the third mile, and it hurt so bad. It took all I had to finish. Then I became really sick after the race. Overall, the day was a bust. The weather was great, though. I learned a lot from this weekend's race. I look forward to next year."

"I set a PR, running one second faster than my previous PR. I felt great throughout the race; it seemed that there were runners pushing every step of the way. It really helps you get through those difficult points of a hard 5K when others are pushing you along the way. Given the talent level of the field, I'm thrilled with my placement, and I look forward to seeing how I'll do in the upcoming races in the series."
"I was pleased with the race today. We had great weather, and I felt great throughout the run. I was fortunate enough to set another PR with today's race. The weather and the course enabled me to maintain a consistent pace and come in under my goal time of 40 minutes. I only hope that the weather for the Papa John's 10 Miler isn't a repeat of last year with the high temperatures and equally high humidity."
"I was pleased with the race today. I set another PR, improving my previous best by 30 seconds. I've been forced to cut back on my mileage over the last month or so, and I believe a decrease in endurance was evident during the second half of the race. Nonetheless, it was a great event, and I look forward to the last month of preparation for the Kentucky Derby Festival miniMarathon."
"We couldn't have asked for better weather. The support was great on the course; it was easy to continue pushing for the full 13.1 miles. I was fortunate enough to set a PR today. It was a great experience."
