Field Hockey: KCD's Christena Burell

Senior Christena Burell has broken Kentucky Country Day's single-season scoring record, which former All-American Cindy Lunsford had set with 28 goals in 1989. Scoring four in KCD's 10-0 win over South Oldham in the District 1 tournament on Monday, Burell increased her season total to 32 goals (including flick-off strokes, which do not count in BeyondTheDerby.com's leaderboard).

Field Hockey: KCD's Christena Burell

Kentucky Country Day senior Christena Burell tied the team record for goals in a single season when she scored her 28th in a 3-1 loss to Assumption on Thursday. (That total includes flick-off strokes, which do not count in BeyondTheDerby.com's leaderboard.) Former All-American Cindy Lunsford was the first to score 28 in 1989. Burell also sits in second place on the team's career scoring list with 59 goals, 11 behind Lunsford.

Field Hockey: KCD's Christena Burell

Kentucky Country Day senior Christena Burell became the newest scoring leader in Kentucky on Tuesday, increasing her season total to 24 goals with four in a 13-0 win over Fern Creek. She has scored 13 goals in KCD's last six games, despite a shoulder injury incurred during a 2-1 loss to Ballard on Sept. 25.

Field Hockey: Christian Academy

Don't look now, but Christian Academy is peaking at just the right time. Four days after a 1-0 win over Mercy, which previously had the second-best record in Kentucky, the Centurions stunned another contender, Ballard, when junior Haley Jurich scored her 14th goal of the season in overtime for a 2-1 win on Monday. Senior Ellen West had scored her state-best 21st goal during regulation. Senior Ali Pulliam scored her 19th for the Bruins.

Field Hockey: Collegiate's Taylor Hodge

Sophomore Taylor Hodge scored four goals during Collegiate's three wins in the Bluegrass Invitational at the University of Louisville's Trager Stadium, becoming the new scoring leader in Kentucky high school field hockey with 21 goals. She has scored 18 in the team's last 12 games.

Field Hockey: CAL's Ellen West

Kentucky high school field hockey has a new scoring leader. Christian Academy senior Ellen West scored three goals in an 11-0 win over Fern Creek on Tuesday, giving her 10 in the last seven games and 20 this season. Assumption senior Lauren Schmeing and Sacred Heart junior Jessica Lindner each have 19.

Field Hockey: Sacred Heart

Defending state champion Sacred Heart successfully defended a different title on Saturday, winning the Huskie Invitational in Oak Park, Ill., for the second year in a row.

The Valkyries played none other than archrival Assumption in the tournament final and won 2-0, marking their third victory over the Rockets this season.
